Criminal Law:
Walt's experience as a criminal trial lawyer is vast and extremely varied. Walt served as the Marine Corps Judge Advocate for 11 years and spent about five years as a prosecutor and five years as a defense counsel, during which time he prosecuted or defended all types of cases ranging from minor misdemeanor cases to murder cases. While in the Marine Corps, Walt either prosecuted or defended nearly a hundred contested jury cases. Walt has tried criminal cases on ships off the coast of Chile, Israel, France, Italy, Brazil, Barbados, Antigua. More recently, Walt received an acquittal for a Marine he defended in Iraq's combat zone. Walt currently has nearly twenty-five (25) years of criminal defense experience.

A criminal defense attorney's job is to understand the facts and apply them to the law in order to get the best possible result. That is what Walt will do for you. The following is Walt's advice for someone that is being investigated by law enforcement authorities or is under arrest:
  1. DO NOT SAY A DAMN THING TO ANYBODY ABOUT ANYTHING! If you feel you must say something, just say "I want to speak with an attorney" or "please do not question me!"
  2. Only give the police your correct name & address.
  3. DO NOT TRUST OR BELIEVE THE POLICE, SHERIFF, MARSHALL, FBI, CID, NIS, DEA, ATF, INS, IRS, ETC. !
  4. DO NOT resist being arrested or fingerprinted!
  5. DO NOT give your consent or permission to search anything!

Real Estate Closings:

Personal Injury:

Traffic Signal Law Suit: Walt Bansley was the lead counsel in a then novel case against the City of Los Angeles in which he proved that the City of Los Angeles was negligent in the design, maintenance and inspection of its traffic control signals at a major intersection. This case resulted in a $1,000,000.00 settlement for his client, who had been injured at the intersection because the traffic control signal failed to have an "all yellow safety interval." Because of then novel aspects of this case, Walt coauthored the articles, Yellow and Red Clearance Signal Timing: Drivers and Attorneys Speak Out, which was published in the Journal for the Institute of Transportation Engineers and Signal Timing: Split Seconds Means Life or Death, which was published in the Journal of Public Works

Estate Planning and Probate:
Bansley Law Offices, LLC also answers your questions about planning for death, from writing a basic will to creating trusts for surviving family. Although Walt's reputation is largely based on his criminal defense exploits, he is quite experienced in estate planning matters. Walt initially developed an interest in estate planning while the Director of the Joint Legal Assistance Office at Camp Pendleton, California, during the early 1990s. The Joint Legal Assistance Office at Camp Pendleton is the largest Department of Defense legal aid offices, and the Camp Pendleton office together with its satellite offices provide estate planning advice and relevant document preparation to a population of approximately 100,000 people. During the summer of 1991, Walt was tasked with supervising a team of more than fifteen attorneys who were responsible for drafting wills, living wills, trusts, powers of attorney and other related documents for over 50,000 Marines and sailors who were sent into "harm's way" during the first Persian Gulf war.
